Kirei Kotomine

The ill-humoured overseer of the Holy Grail War who operates from the Church in the Hill.

The Kotomine family has been overseeing the Grail Wars seen the Third Grail War, and Kirei inherited his position from his father after his death.

Despite being a member of the Church, Kirei was taught Magecraft by Rin's father and in turn raised and taught Rin after her father's death. Despite this, the two do not get along, with her mocking him as a "fake priest" and finding him overbearing.

A survivor of the Fourth Grail War, Kirei lost his Servant early on and took sanctury in his own church.

Crucially, he told Shirou that an unworthy Master touching the Grail was responsible for the fire 10 years ago. Would a Master who dropped out early but survived long enough to touch it be considered unworthy?

For a man of God, Kirei has a rather dark sense of humour and a tendency to mock and belittle those he finds amusing. For some reason, Shirou attracted his wit during his explaination of he war.

Perhaps it was because Kirei could see right through him and his ideals.
